(October 226) Episode 750 is YOB, a doom metal group out of Oregon. That categorization is too limiting; their sound across albums covers many sub-genres: stoner, sludge, funeral, prog, giving YOB a measure of uncharacteristic variety. It’s not formulaic, other than that most songs are of a 10-15 minute duration. It’s heavy, it’s loud, and it’s got a good aura.
Favorite album: The Unreal Never Lived
Favorite song: Kosmos
Compared to expectations: ↑
Recommendation: As I’ve written before, the doom/stoner aesthetic is an acquired taste, but is you are amenable, any album here is a good entry point, and the variation may help you linger.
