751. Jim Croce

(November 2026) Episode 751 is JIM CROCE. I started this when I was in his hometown of Philadelphia. His first two albums were folk – the first unpolished solo songs and the second joint with wife Ingrid. But with his third he strode into his blue-collar singer-songwriter form that made him a mainstay of soft-rock radio. Hits like “Bad, Bad Leroy Brown,” “Time in a Bottle” and “Operator” became a signature sound of the 1970s. His career was cut short by a tragic plane crash at age 30.

Favorite album: You Don’t Mess Around with Jim

Favorite song: I Got a Name

Compared to expectations: same

Recommendation: You can probably get what you need waiting in a dentists’ office, but if not his greatest hits will do it.
